Ming Dynasty
Rivalry among the Mongol imperial heirs, natural disasters, and numerous peasant uprisings led to the collapse of the Yuan dynasty. The Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) was founded by a Han Chinese peasant and former Buddhist monk turned rebel army leader. Having its capital first at Nanjing which means Southern Capital and later at Beijing (Northern Capital), the Ming reached the zenith of power during the first quarter of the fifteenth century. The Chinese armies reconquered Annam, as northern Vietnam was then known, in Southeast Asia and kept back the Mongols, while the Chinese fleet sailed the China seas and the Indian Ocean, cruising as far as the east coast of Africa. The maritime Asian nations sent envoys with tribute for the Chinese emperor. Internally, the Grand Canal was expanded to its farthest limits and proved to be a stimulus to domestic trade. The Ming maritime expeditions stopped rather suddenly after 1433, the date of the last voyage. Historians have given as one of the reasons the great expense of large-scale expeditions at a time of preoccupation with northern defenses against the Mongols. Opposition at court also may have been a...
The Swordsman - 笑傲江湖 (Xiao ao jiang hu)
This movie feature a lot of old style CGI and is an action fighting martial arts film. I truly enjoy this.Synopsis: In the later years of the Ming dynasty, a kung-fu manual known as the "sacred scroll" is stolen from the Emperor's library, triggering off a power struggle to retrieve it. A young swordsman and his fellow disciple are accidently drawn into the chaos when they help their teacher deliver a package to the man who stole the scroll. Also involved are a clan of highlanders who use black magic, a sect of sailors, a martial arts school, and court officials. Ultimately, the true colours of the characters are revealed as the story unfolds into a web of betrays, love, honor, integrity, and friendship which ends with a showdown between the teacher and his eldest disciple. What is your opinion about this movie?
Do You Know The Actual Length Of The Great Wall?
There's a popular Chinese saying that the Great Wall extends 10,000 li (5000 km). I do not know how this ancient saying came about, however, I am quite surprised that the Chinese were quite close to the actual length distance, considering the tradition and conservatism of the Chinese during that time. The Great Wall, originally built by China's first emperor Qin Shi Huang (259-210 BC) in the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), was listed as a United Nations World Heritage Site in 1987. The section built in the Ming Dynasty is the most visually striking and well-preserved portion of the world-famous fortification.Well, the actual exact distance of the China Great Wall is already out and certified to be 8,851.8 km, significantly longer than previous estimates. The latest findings are based on a two-year mapping and investigation jointly conducted by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (S.A.C.H) and the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (S.B.S.M).So, is anyone surprised here?Ref: http://www.asiaone.com/Travel/News/Story/A1Story20090421-136422.html
Suzhou a world of old houses
Suzhou is a city that can induce dreams-dreams of a time in the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) when artists and retired officials made a leisurely walk in the park an art. I love the old town because it does not have any buiding taller than 2o storied and very few large chain stores or supermarkets.IF there were no automobiles on the streets, it would be easier to imagine how the city was created 2,500 years agao. Much of what you see dates from the Ming and Qing dynasties(1368-1911), though. The best surprises come when you veer off a main street and walk across a small bridge. Now,Suzhou has become an old city, but its beauty becomes more attractive!Every day there are thousands of tourists visiting it.Have you been to Suzhou,China?welcome here!

Answer some questions
to Treefisher sorry, i has to answer your questions here because i cann't reply directly in that discussion of Mylot.the firstly is about rights, i don't know why you believe chinese have no rights to say anything about the problems of our country. i has to tell you we have rights and ways(some diffent with yours)to do that.the secondly, i only "guess" that guy not everything. the thirdly, frome Ming Dynasty (1372 AD)to today, Tibet is always included the territory of China.we found some seriously wrong news in some western famous media, such as CNN and so on. the fouthly i must tell you what your media told you were not correct things. you can go to the web,www.ant-cnn.com,where you get more information.to Foxfire1875 about your two questions, since youthink you have anwsered my question about NOrthern Ireland and Falkland, i also suspect your explain is not correct and unfair. China have 56 nations and Tibetan just is one of them.the friedship between Chiness and TIbetian can retropect the Tang Dynsasty(641 AD).after 1247 AD, Tibet belonged to Yuan Dynasty.at the end of 1368 AD,the Ming Dynasty began and kept fighting against the amay of Yuan dynasty.1372,the leaders...
Have you ever been to such village in Beijing?
In May day, I had a trip to an ancient village named Chuandixia with my former colleagues. It would be ascended to Ming Dynasty.Until now it still remains landlord's house. U can feel that how they slept on the Kang, sucking their tobacco pipe. What's the most characteristic is their flavors. Many dises are cooked simply, but much delicious! One kind of cakes made by corn have a distinctive flavor. It is not exquisite as our steambread. So when you chew in mouth, you feel not soft but energetic. I think this village must be famous Sihe Yard. There are more than 40 families living in it. And you can visit each house for free. Surrounding the village stands some mountains. That was my first time to climb hills. When you get up to the top, overlooking everything on the ground and breathing fresh air, how comfortable you are! As 2008 Olympic Games is coming, I suggest all friends go to that chassic village to have a look! Enjoy yourselves!

The imperial Palace grounds are located directly to the north of Tiananmen Square and are accessible from the Square via Tiananmen Gate. It is surrounded by a large area called the Imperial City. The instruction of the Forbidden City started in 1406 and took 14 years and an estimated 200,000 men. From its completion in 1422 to 1644, when a peasant revolt invaded it, the Fobidden City served as the seat of Mind Dynasty. The following Qing Dynasty also occupied the Forbidden City. After being the home of 24 emperors-14 of the Ming Dynasty & 10 of the Qing-the forbidden city ceased being the political center of china in 1912 with the abdication of Pu Yi, the last Emperor of China. Pu Yi was however, allowd and in fact required to live...
